Birthday!

Normally I hate birthdays. I don't like getting older. But Sarah suggested this year I make it a "Self Care Day". Never had such a thing occurred to me, but I liked it. Like Streatfield always says, "Sumptuous Living!" So while I didn't rent a yacht for the day, one suggestion I received, I did do many fabulous things. I even brought my camera with me to document the day, thought missed about half the day. Honestly.
I started off with a run, then early lunch with my sister at one of my favorite cafes, Essential Bakery. I put aside my vegan ways for the day and lived it up! A vanilla soy latte, Pacific Northwest salad: organic mixed greens, dried figs, cucumbers, toasted almonds, Gorgonzola with a house-made maple-mustard vinaigrette, with pizza bianca, and a blueberry scone. It was all beautiful. Trust me.
Next we headed to get a Spa Pedicure - coral red for me and muted eggplant taupe for T. I had forgotten how nice it is to have pretty toes- I didn't want to wear shoes the rest of the day.
We picked up Mark, Ash and Tor and headed to the K Casa for a family birthday party. I recently purchased a Vitamix (sumptuous living for sure!) and brought it along to make smoothies for the fam. My first fault was forgetting the mixer-plunger-stick which is just long enough to not hit the blade, but adequately mix the contents. Mom's wooden spoon was the victim of my improvisation. A full batch of smoothie + wood slivers went into the compost bin. Please note: Do not stick wooden spoons in a Vitamix- there's some serious suction power going on.
During the blender fiasco, all the frozen fruit started to thaw. Normally this isn't a problem unless there is a hole in the ziploc freezer bag.... which I realized after carrying a bag of peaches from one end of the kitchen to the other, leaving a sticky trail as I went. Mom to the rescue!
Ash and Tor played a Star Wars board game (from the 80's) with Stephen for most of the afternoon. They are very much fascinated with Star Wars and are itching for the day to watch the movies. Still a little scary though....
We had my beloved Pagliacci's pizza, Pagliaccio salad and Mom's birthday cake - white with white frosting. SO GOOD, I can't stand it.

It was a day full of my favorite things.
