The Best Yard Ever, yeah you know it...

I like to go home.

Since I don't have my own, I like to go back to my mom and dad's house once a week. I really like visiting my parents- there is something very comforting about going back home. My old room, the best sofa for napping- EVER, and
the yard. Most people don't have yards anymore... except for a patch the size of a king-size bed... or a twin.

My sibs and I grew-up playing in the backyard all
day everyday during the summer or whenever mom got tired of our antics and sent us outside! Really though, it had all kinds of places to explore- trees, gardens, woodpiles, piles of dirt and the barn where we kept all our toys and bikes. We even wore a path into the lawn from the house to the barn. So great.

Mark fell from like 3 or 4 stories up out of one of our evergreen trees once. I fell out of the chestnut tree. We used to have a huge mound of dirt in the back that was a GI Joe battle ground, before it became a basketball court.

Mom and Dad are original organic gardeners! They have strawberries, cherries, raspberries, tomatoes and apples. And an impressive three-bin composting set-up.

delicious goodness!

As we got older, they were very kind in letting me plant whatever I wanted- hydrangeas, peonies, dahlias etc etc. Nowadays it's more of a place to lounge during the summer, play croquet, watch Ashen run around, and relax. I must admit, all my plants are still there, but the watering and weeding is often left to them. I think I'm going to be better about that.

...one of several hydrangeas, just starting to bloom

the peonies ready to pop!

...the clematis that dad built a new, super-sturdy trellis for

Ashen trying his hand at croquet (he really liked the mallet because it looked like a hammer!)

I think it's one of the greatest places there is.

It is one of the most relaxing places around...and the yard is really utopian green goodness. How neat that you still have your childhood home to go to...

What a wonderful yard! That is one of the bummers of city living, teensy yards. : (
